I can’t believe that just last week today, I was hauling ass from Las Vegas Airport to JFK for a 12 hour trip after walking three tradeshows, followed by mandatory cocktail meetings before the long dinners with friends you only catch up with in the trade show circuit, which only prefaced the after party you came to in hopes of swapping business cards with that certain someone who’s Linkedin you’ve been eyeing. Unlike most full time, traveling bloggers, most of my work while I’m in transit doesn’t allow me a grace period to shoot outfit photos for my blog, since on work trips like this I wake up at dawn and on a lucky occasion, wrap up by dusk. Another obstacle I face is that I travel alone, and don’t have a dedicated person who devotes their time capturing a rare moments of me looking fresh at the airport while waiting for a red eye.
These were taken in a five minute gap between leaving Mandalay and heading out to dinner. It turned out to be an opportune moment because had we walked over a minute later, there would be a group of Hawaiian shirts in the background. As much as I’d love to capture more content to give these trips justice, I put my personal life first, and allocate my time to things that are more fulfilling to me beyond a surface level. Long story short, shooting takes time and effort, time I’d much prefer spending out with friends than a photo story with very little to say beyond where I’ve been. As for this year’s trip to Vegas…as the old adage goes, whatever happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

Since the weather in California offers no indicator of the seasons changing, annual events like Project Tradeshow in Vegas have become signs of a new leaf turning. This year I covered both Agenda, Project and Liberty Fairs with my LA Canvas team. Spending days inside air conditioned convention centers during the summer skews what the weather realistically is outside…so while we’re delving into next year’s deliveries, my mind shifts gears and I mentally prep for fall fashion week. The moment I came home from Vegas this week I traded my triangl swimwear for tartans prints, and opted for ankle boots instead of my Isabel Marant sandals. Now if I could only cue in the leaves to turn brown…

One of the most incredible opportunities I was able to experience this summer: Watching a few of my favorite bands such as The Lumineers, Alt-J and Beach House perform right on stage with the bands during Lollapalooza. It’s hard to explain the happiness I experienced hearing the sounds of songs I play on repeat on late night car rides reverberate right off the stage in front of me, let alone remembering me as the young girl who watched Almost Famous to the point of route memorization had some how fulfilled my childhood dream of being able to attend music festivals for a living. While I was completely paralyzed by the sounds of Alt J performing ‘Taro’ ahead, I blindly ignored small talk from Aaron Paul standing right beside me.
I often stress and wonder about the longevity of blogging and the risk of pausing steady goals like school to pursue unique opportunities like this one. I never thought or believed in my wildest imagination that the things you’re interested in when you’re young could be a reliable indicator of what you should do with your life…but when I stop to think about the things I’ll look back on when I’m old and gray, I know I’ll reflect on moments like this without any regrets.
